Although Basketry is an ancient craft, it is not common in Israel.
Israel is a young country, and we don't have basketry traditions to learn from and develop.

When I returned to Israel in 1998, after learning Basketry in the USA, I thought no one else was making baskets. Not only there weren't many basketmakers, there wasn't any information about them.
by chance I met one basketmaker, and thru that link I met more and more. It seems that in the recent years Basketry spreads around, and gains more and more enthusiastic fans.

I believe that establishing a web site for the Israeli basketmakers community is the next right thing to do, in order to tighten the links among existing basketmaker, and spread information toward new ones.
It is also an opportunity to link Israeli basketmakers community to the wide world of basketry overseas.
